Ulster Rugby and Leicester Tigers in Champions Cup clash
October 12, 2018 | Clubs and Teams, Competitions |
This weekend marks the start of the 2018-19 Heineken Champions Cup, European Rugby’s top prize.
Our partners Ulster Rugby and Leicester Tigers have been pitted against each other in pool four, alongside Scarlets and Racing 92. They’ll face off tomorrow at the Kingspan Stadium, 17:30 kick-off.
The two sides have forged a memorable rivalry in recent years, with their last Champions Cup encounter in 2015 ending in a 26-7 home victory for the Ulster men. Both sides will have their sights set firmly on progressing to the knockout stages having missed out last year. Tigers are two-time winners (2001 & 2002), with Ulster triumphing back in 1999.
Tigers come into this clash off the back of a hard-fought away victory over Northampton Saints in the East Midlands derby. Meanwhile Ulster will be looking to get back to winning ways after suffering a second consecutive defeat at the hands of Connacht last Friday. They’ll go into Saturday’s showdown full of confidence though, having won all four of their home games against Leicester.
Ulster will wear their new, bespoke European jersey for the very first-time during Saturday’s match against their old rivals. Fans can purchase the jersey in-store at the Kingspan Stadium and Victoria Square, online at ulsterrugbyshop.com and in select retailers across the province.
